Scanning

MENTALITY NEEDED FOR SCANNING
oddly enough when you are “in the zone” you are in the same mental state as when you are learning, the alpha state, abet further in it.
So just what is a brain wave?
Neural oscillation is rhythmic or repetitive neural activity in the central nervous system. Neural tissue can generate oscillatory activity in many ways, driven either by mechanisms localized within individual neurons or by interactions between neurons. In individual neurons, oscillations can appear either as sub-threshold changes in membrane potential or as rhythmic patterns of action potentials, which then produce oscillatory activation of post-synaptic neurons. At the level of neural ensembles, synchronized activity of large numbers of neurons can give rise to macroscopic oscillations, which can be observed in the electroencephalogram (EEG). Oscillatory activity in groups of neurons generally arise from feedback connections between the neurons that result in the synchronization of their firing patterns. The interaction between neurons can give rise to oscillations at a different frequency than the firing frequency of individual neurons. A well-known example of macroscopic neural oscillations is alpha activity. ~Wikipedia
so what makes the alpha state so wonderful? Well quite a number of things...
first off your in the zone, and you can learn much faster. But more importantly whan in this state you can manipulate energy much much better. Asking why gets into theory that is beyond the scope of this article. Sorry fokes, not this time...
so, how to get into the alpha state? Well its not that complicated, just calm down to the point you can feel your heart beat and focus on making your neurons fire together at roughly twice the rate of your heart beat.
Then go find a teacher and practice it with them. Fairly simple.

Definition:
Analytic overlay is often mentioned when practising perceptive skills, such as energetic scanning, telepathy, remote viewing (RV), et al. Analytic overlay is what you get when you’re obtaining information through other means than your five senses (i.e. clairvoyance) and your analytical mind interferes in a harmful manner. The result is receiving something that is usually wrong information. Sometimes this analytical mind will produce accurate observations and guesses, but the information is not the result of pure reception. Thus, in most cases AOL is something we psychics try to avoid. As defined in the Coordinate Remote Viewing manual, used by the US military during their RV research, AOL is “conscious subjective interpretations of signal line data, which may or may not be relevant to the site.” With time, people in the OEC (Online Energy Community) have started using this term in more situations than just Remote Viewing sessions, which has given the word a slightly broader definition.
Any perceptive skill can be affected by ‘AOL interference’. This includes, but is not limited to, energetic scanning, telepathic receiving, and any given application of clairvoyance. When you get AOL, it’s usually due to one of the following two reasons:
You have preconceived ideas about the target due to prior information or expectations about the target, which manifest themselves in your results. Your ‘chattering mind’ is too active during the session and creates information on its own by analysing what you receive.
Preventing it from happening
The most important thing you can do before a practice is preparation. Usually this is done by a simple mind-clearing exercise. This can be done through a brief meditation. For example, slowly counting backwards from ten in your mind, grounding/centering, or entering a light trance.
The second thing you should do before the practice, which in my opinion is just as important, is to make sure you don’t have any expectations about the target based on previous experience or impression. This is something you can learn to do automatically with some practice, but you may also find self-hypnosis to be useful for dealing with this issue. Doing this helps with preventing yourself from getting tempted to guess, and instead plainly do what you’re supposed to do: perform a psychic skill. It can also be useful to tell your subconscious to start from scratch before each attempt, to avoid expecting things too much.
Lastly, one tip that may aid AOL, as well as all areas of psychic skills, is to begin meditating regularly. Though this is not necessary, it does teach you the valuable ability of quieting your mind.
Identifying and dealing with it
Most people experience AOL from time to time, and when it occurs it’s useful to know how to identify it so it can be dealt with properly. Here’s a scenario that can happen when someone is practising construct scanning: Jack scans Bob’s construct and thinks he’s getting a green triangle. Suddenly it occurs to him that he got the same thing the last time he scanned a construct from Bob. Suddenly he begins thinking it might be a white cube. He thinks to himself that his first impression didn’t feel right, decides it was probably analytic overlay, and goes with the white cube. He’s wrong. What happened? Just because the construct was a green triangle before, does not mean it’s not a green triangle again. The key is to go with your first instinct. Don’t analyse your results, save that for after.
Now, in some situations, maybe you’ll feel as if it is a green triangle again, you’ll pick that as your answer, and you’ll be wrong. Now what happened here? Usually it is that you didn’t prepare and clear you mind before you began. The thought was sort of “left over” and was still residing in your mind. The key is to, before every attempt, completely clear you mind and focus yourself, begin receiving the information in a passive state (remember, leave the analysing for later), and then go with your first instinct. After awhile of this proper practice, after a time of sifting through answers and analysing your results after your practice, you’ll begin to get an indescribable “feel” for what is the right answer and what is analytical overlay.
How you like to receive your impressions and which way suits you best are of course different for each person. Practice can show you how you best interpret the information. Some people like to see everything visually, while others prefer getting the information through words. Try different approaches and see what you prefer. Simply make the affirmation before you begin receiving that you will receive the information that way.
When doing Remote Viewing, it’s common to scribble down your impressions on a piece of paper. That way you can look over your data, and try to determine what’s ‘the real deal’, and what might be AOL. That is generally easier when you have an overall impression of all the bits and pieces of information. It’s also useful in the sense that your impressions may be fluctuating and it is easy to forget or overlook. In order to prevent AOL when remote viewing specifically, it’s generally useful to be descriptive but not defining while receiving. It’s a known fact among remote viewers that if you start a remote viewing session by writing the word ‘car’, it’s more likely to be AOL than if you carefully describe what you’re receiving using only adjectives, such as ‘moving, rolling, metallic’ (in which case you can likely assume you’re dealing with a car or a vehicle when looking over your accumulated data). Because of the nature of Remote Viewing, this will make your results much more reliable. This approach can actually also be used successfully in conjunction with almost anything involving the perceptive abilities.
Conclusion
There’s really not much to it. Analytic overlay can sometimes be a pain, but you can learn to effectively identify and prevent it when it occurs. The methods I’ve provided in this article can improve your accuracy through some simple steps. While some of them may help you immediately, nothing can replace well-spent practice time. So keep practising and have fun.

Scanning is simple yet complex. When one scans, he/she is looking at things that aren't on this plane of existence enough to be viewed by the naked eye (unless you're just that good at scanning, which some are). These things include but are not limited to: Auras, bodies, constructs.
When one scans, he/she needs to have a fairly decent ability in acquiring a psi-sig as posted in previous articles by melikai. To scan, simply acquire the sig. of the vic-target, close your eyes, relax. You may get to a point of relaxation where your ears kind of "shut out" things around them. This is a good level to reach for scanning.
Many people like to make scanning complicated by sending a tendril, tube, ect, to whatever they're trying to scan. This is just baggage that everyone can really live without.
Back to the sig, you have it, right? You should. ^_^ Now, kind of follow this sig. Don't read too much into that. Just get the sig in your mind pretty well. Now, look around basically. Let's say you're trying to scan someone's arm. Look and know that what you're looking at is the arm of the sig. Now, to avoid any analytical overlay (aol), sit there and WAIT for an image to pop up.
Here's a good practice to get the feeling of scanning without a lot of hassle. Go into your imagination. Pretend you're looking at a picture frame. You can't see what it's a picture of so simply look inside the frame and wait for a picture to pop into it.
One big problem with people practicing scanning is they think EVERYTHING they get is aol. Scanning feels just like you're making stuff up in your head. You're not though. With practice, more of that stuff you think you're making up will be correct.
There are a number of people who try to do this and just get feelings, emotions, ect. This makes it VERY hard for them to scan. My suggestion is do the aforementioned exercise with the picture untill you get the feel of visualization down, then practice scanning with your visual senses. Good luck, feel free to ask anything.

Scanning
by annie
I'm told every good article starts with a joke. Yep, a joke. Upon spending the past few days with my eight month old nephew, I have a great joke that works every time. OK. Ready?
Peek-a-boo! No, wait, it goes like this. PEEK-A-BOO!
Tough crowd, tough crowd. I'm actually here, today, to discuss a number of subjects, the first one being scanning. For those of you who've been around a while, this article basically combines the last two articles (no longer available) and adds some more information. It is part one of a very cool series.
I'm often asked by the Internet folk how to scan. These are the following questions I am going to answer on scanning:
What is scanning?
How do I create the 'link' in which to scan someone? What should I visualize?
How do I get the kind of information am I looking for once I've created this link?
Will you scan me?
Is scanning ethical?
How do you read someone's mind?
I still can't locate my target, what can I do?
Does your target have to know you're scanning them?
How do I know if I'm being scanned? Can I prevent scanning?
Will you scan me?
So, here we go. One question at a time.
1. What is scanning?
Scanning is defined in the Telepathy Manual. But, because you're special, I'll paste it again here for you:
6) Scanning: Scanning, as far as telepathy goes, is a method of finding information about a target via telepathic means. Scans vary in depth and accuracy. While a surface scan may turn up very little, for example, a shield shape and possibly surface thoughts, an in depth scan can uncover basically anything any one individual is thinking or has thought, without them necessarily having to be thinking it at the time.
2. How do I create the 'link' in which to scan someone? What should I visualize?
This is where you start to OVER think. (At least, those of you capable of thinking.) You're the ones who have printed out this article and are waiting for a step-by-step instruction scanning ritual. Sorry, suckers, ain't happening. While telepathy may be a science of it's sort, I like to think there's still a bit of art to it. So just chill the heck out and go with it, dammit! Still, I'm going to relay a couple of popular visualizations.
My favorite is the Utility Belt Link. (Now, in the past I have been made fun of for naming names of superheros who didn't actually wear utility belts. But don't you worry, readers, I made sure those nerds knew who was boss.)
I'm pretty sure Batman had one, because of that one scene with Kim Basinger... nevermind. So Batman is our example. When Batman needs to climb a wall, he unleashes that anchor-looking thing with a rope attached, and up he climbs. This is the general beginners method, as it's that "climbing" feeling and practice which increases your familiarity, comfort zone, speed, and in such, your accuracy.
Acquire target. Shield. Do not proceed before until you've done both. After you've acquired your target, visualize your utility belt. And if you're the type of person who has to manipulate from the sternum, a utility sports bra. Take a moment to gather, program, and then send towards the target. This anchor is just an extension of you. Navigate around your target and see what you see.
This is basically the same as the tendril technique described in the Telepathy Manual. The tendril technique seems to work best for people who are more often heavily shielded and have the awareness and control to just plum extend themselves into a target's mind.
3. How do I get the kind of information am I looking for once I've created this link?
This might be an anti-climactic answer, but look for it. Poke around (gently!) and find the information you seek. Also, a programming of your extension (anchor, tendril, whatever) can be crucial.
4. Will you scan me?
No.
5. Is scanning ethical?
Neither PsiPog nor I are the appropriate people to ask this. Ethics are a personal thing. Decide your own and go from there. But don't lecture me; it makes me grumpy. If it is a matter of religion, speak to your spiritual advisor.
6. How do you read someone's mind?
First of all, if you're seriously asking me this question: I hate you. Second, "mind reading" and "scanning" are somewhat interchangable, in a slang situation.
7. I still can't locate my target, what can I do?
If you haven't been practicing this for at least a month, do not ask me this. Practice. Keep practicing. Baby steps, people, baby steps. You can also read Gnome's Sensitivity Manual and practice being in tune with the feelings that occur during change and even during moments of stillness. If all else fails, I hear golf is a good game.
8. Does your target have to know you're scanning them?
No. Although some scanners can feel like a bull in a china shop no matter how "subtle" they try to be. This, too, comes with practice and being comfortable with the navigation.
9. How do I know if I'm being scanned? Can I prevent scanning?
I don't know. How do you know when your foot itches? How do you know when someone behind you is staring at the back of your head? It's just a matter of sensitivity. And yes, you can shield against scanning. Use the same visualizations you would to keep all other probe types out.
10. Will you scan me?
Again, no. I am not a circus act, nor do I wish to be watched like two mating monkies at the zoo. If you have a legitimate need and know how to find me, I'll try to be accomodating. But the default answer is still no.

What is Scanning for? Scans are not a substitute for going to see a doctor about mental or physical issues. Please get more tangible info from them instead of relying completely on someone’s ranged perception. Psychic scans are great supplements, but are never replacements for doctors or therapists. With that said, scanning is a good way to look at your own energy or the energy of someone else.
Common issues and concerns? Each of us have different ways of perceiving someone’s energy; so that if there are 3 people looking at a person, there may be 3 different things being seen to describe what is going on with the target. Also, some people may not be able to see details yet, this comes with practice.
Common expectations vs. results? Many people expect to see colors while they scan. However, information can come in many forms, including sounds, colors, visions, words, pictures, the sensation of textures, and other ways. Be open to what you receive and use your intuition to figure out what it means.
Common mistakes and assumptions? Mistakes come along the line of a person seeing certain things on their target and the target taking the information at face value and running with it. The person being scanned NEEDS at least 3 people to validate findings before committing to a result.
Note 01: All scans have this in common, that either the target needs to de-shield, or we need to move past shields WHILE examining them. Also make it a habit to scan around a target for any external influences.
Note 02: Practice on yourself first – if you can’t scan yourself and learn your own system, how can you expect to be of any real help to someone else?
~*~
Method: X-Ray
Start out by relaxing yourself and getting your mind into a focused state.
With this method I like using a flat-plane shield that is programmed to read your energy state. Meaning, that it will detect color, negative junk, and anything else you wish for it to detect. (Please read ‘Common expectations vs. results’)
Using this shield is pretty simple: run the shield through each of the body’s planes as if using an X-Ray machine that is moving along the line of each plane (Planes of the Human Body http://www.highschoolanatomy.org/img/Body-Planes.jpg ).
As you go through the body with each plane
- examine the energy field around the body
- examine the person’s shields
- examine the body energy for patches that attract your attention
- examine the parts of the body for patches, disease, strain, etc.

- - http://www.innerbody.com/htm/body.html
- - http://web.jjay.cuny.edu/~acarpi/NSC/14-anatomy.htm (This one has sound of heartbeat on it. If you do not want to hear it be sure to turn your speakers down.)
Once you have passed your scan shield through everything and have examined the person and discussed with them your findings for validation, you can switch the scan shield into a “filter net” of sorts. I would suggest using this scan shield instead of making a new construct to work with, because the scan shield has in it’s memory what it looked at already.
Pass this new program in the scan shield through the planes of the body and use it to scoop up everything that you want to remove from the person. Be sure to NOT pick up anything that is healthy, the person’s energy signature, or things the person wants to keep.
With each pass through the body’s planes (and you can do this as many times as you sense is necessary), let the junk slid off the shield and down into the ground away from the person.
Once you finish with this make another scan of the person to be sure you have everything out that needs to be out before dismissing your scanning shield.
~*~
Common questions and answers? Please post questions.
What to watch out for (if not already mentioned)? Please post your own experiences.
What else is important to know? Scanning is not the end all answer to anything. It is a way to see what is going on with a person and aids in healing and clearing energy. Validation. Confirmation. Verification.
How is it used for:
-Looking at health issues
-Looking at astral occurrences
-Examining energy occurrences
-Aiding in clearing junk out of energy system
-Scrape off negative junk as you walk by making the scan shield into a doorway to walk through

This is an article on scanning which I hope you will enjoy and perhaps find some use of. It will have the following parts;
1.An introduction to the concept of scanning
2.A few simple scanning exercises.
3.Introduction to sensitivity.
4.Common issues when beginning scanning.
5.Types of scanning.
1. Introduction to scanning
Scanning is essentially the act of reaching your awareness out to a target in order to obtain information of some sort. It is extremely simple in it's basic concept and not nearly so much a black art as it is often made out to be. One can achieve some success with scanning within a few hours to a few days, although one will afterwards spend a lifetime trying to master this skill. A note one has to make about scanning, is a consideration of how the mind interprets information and the concept of sensory literals. For example, let's consider sight, it’s based on the exciting of certain cones and rods within ones eye by electromagnetism in the visible light spectrum which then goes through several types of neurological processing in order to be perceived as color. One must realize that color is not the original input but an interpretation of it, and a different interpretation would lead to a very different cognitive and perceptual universe. One can see a mild example of this by the reports of those who have synesthesia who can 'hear color' or 'see sound'. The neurological systems which are associated with one sense get crossed over to one degree or another. Why is this relevant to scanning? Because when scanning, a similar process occurs, except for two differences which are; (A.) Unless one is a natural clairvoyant or similar, and even then to a lesser degree, the mind has no pre-set pathway for dealing with this psychic information, so it gets translated in many different and sometimes haphazard ways. Sometimes one will get a series of very bizarre and abstract symbols which one must take quite awhile to find out how to interpret, and other times the information can be very literal. One might get the information channels mixed with sight and then this skill will be called clairvoyance, or one might get it as a feeling in ones gut and it will be called intuition. Even though energetically speaking there may or may not. In my opinion it depends on the individual case, be any sort of literal difference between them. (B.) Partly as a result of this and partly as a result of the way ones subtle bodies work, ones scanning pathways are in a way infinitely upgradable. One isn't limited to having the information perceived in one way, and one can easily obtain a gut feeling or a visual perception depending on what you are looking for. One will have certain natural proclivities due to the way ones mind works, and will tend to develop certain habits. Although one is not limited to those and allowing oneself to be limited to those entirely is destructive to ones development as a scanner and will lead to stagnancy. This isn't to suggest one constantly destroy what one has learned previously, but that one should constantly build upon and add new 'tools', and new pathways for the information to manifest itself into conscious awareness, as one develops and practices as a scanner.
2. A few simple scanning exercises;
I will be giving these in a bit of a list format, some basic energy manipulation will be assumed;
(A.) Simple Coordinate RV; while often considered separate from scanning by some, it is in my opinion a subset of it and will train one to open the pathway. While an entire discussion of remote viewing is outside of the purview of this article, and I recommend you pursue it further using whatever research one can, I can give a simple description of the process as well as why it is useful for the development of scanning ability. Firstly, find a practice target, either try to get a friend to give you one, or do a search on google for 'remote viewing practice targets'. There are many sites which will be likely to give you some. Get a pen and paper, write down the coordinates, which serve as a link in standard remote viewing theory to a sort of informational matrix, on the top of the piece of paper and slowly repeat them to oneself ensuring that the message is given to one subconscious mind via this that one is serious about obtaining information. Loosely rest pen on paper and wait until you get a response from the target, do not try to consciously induce this just wait for it, it will be difficult to recognize as anything, perhaps just a squiggly line or something very similar to that but it will nevertheless represent ones first contact with the target. In standard CRV(which this isn't is, to be truly called standard CRV one must obtain some form of proper training), this is called an ideogram. One must decode the ideogram, finding whatever response it gives, what the 'essence' of it is symbolically to you, and then write it down on the paper-just the essence one obtains, NOT an attempt at identifying the target although if any thoughts of identification come in these must be written down too and declared as AOL's. For example, if drew a sharp, pointed zig-zagging line and this 'felt' artificial to you, you would write down maybe 'sharp, pointed, artificial' and if one got an AOL it was say an office building one would write down "AOL 13 story office building "or similar. Do not be discouraged if you get alot of AOL or have difficulty recognizing AOL from valid data at first, this is part of the process. Once one has obtained this first contact, one can move on as information comes in, being sure to not rush the process and going for example into sensory data, if one gets an impression of darkness after this for example one would write this down, and so on. This is just a VERY basic introduction to RV for the purpose of introducing one to psychic information flow, if you are interested in this I highly recommend you research further.
The use of this in training scanning is this; one needs to obtain some form of initial information flow, this method of gaining a direct response which to a very large degree bypasses the conscious mind entirely will teach one in a very direct way how to initially obtain a contact with a line of psychic information flow and prepare one for more advanced things, and begins building the pathways up in a way which has very little chance of getting muddied with interpretational data.
b.Shield scanning; as far as energetic scanning goes, this is the absolute basics and a great way to build confidence and gain conscious control over the initial making of contact with a target. You will need two people for this, one to make the shield and one to scan, after the shield is made the scanner will begin... well, scanning. You reach your awareness out to the shield, just focus on it and allow part of your essential self to be there-if some visualization tool of imagining a beam of psi or similar helps you feel free to use it though it's not necessary and may possibly induce AOL if you're not careful but as always use what works-and allow impression to come to you. It is not different from the RV exercise suggested above with the essential difference that you are more directly controlling the information flow, just scan the shield with your awareness, note any impressions which come to you of any sort-don't filter or try to analyze, just report perceptions, intuitions, etc-and eventually come up with a report on the shield. Give the person who made the shield your report and compare to see how much it matches..
c.Car color scanning; if you have a busy street nearby, this is a great way to begin to practice moving your awareness around alot and switching it. Go to the busy street and reach your awareness out to it, and find the color of a car coming up, then switch your awareness quickly to find another, and then another and keep on scanning even as you are getting immediate feedback on the colors of the cars passing by as they come up. Often one will get a color just next to the position of the color of the car one thinks it is, just don't get discouraged and learn from such lack of precision and use it to train precise control. This is an excellent exercise to perform if you're going to be reffing spars as often a spar can become very hectic with alot of things being thrown around very swiftly.
d. X-ray clairvoyance; this helps with integrating ones bilocated, far-away scanning with ones constant baseline awareness, basically just get a book you haven't read and try to see what for example the first letter on a page is. Just basically try to stare through it and allow ones sight and awareness to sort of penetrate the book, this can become very literally visual at times.
3.Introduction to sensitivity;
The previously suggested exercises will have already trained ones sensitivity to a fairly high degree if they have been practiced in a dedicated manner, but sensitivity itself has to be considered separately. It is very necessary to scanning that one be sensitive to a target, in fact it is half of the whole point of scanning. One way to train sensitivity is to just listen around one and attempt to predict what sound will come next, and with enough practice this 'listening' will swiftly become a constant sense in itself which has many benefits, but there are a few others. For example;
Telepathic sending/receiving exercises; anything which involves telepathic sending/receiving will train obviously both the reception of telepathic signals, and so telepathic sensitivity which will make you more sensitive to such signals when scanning, and general psychic sensitivity and the process of trying to 'sniff out an impression'. I personally would recommend whole stories for this purpose rather than the usual shaped and colors sorts of games, but as you will.
Subtle body reception; Remember the discussion in introduction to scanning about the basic process of reception? Well... what constitutes the actual receiver for psi perceptions? Considering the way psi works, it is very unlikely to be ones body body or any part of it except as a final step in the process, so it must be either free-floating or an aspect of ones being which can be defined as what is traditionally known as a subtle body, which is basically the body one has on another level of existence. Some of these bodies are the ones which one detaches from ones physical body in order to perform astral projection, if you're familiar with chakra's you are already partially familiar with the concept. Some might disagree about whether or not these literally exist, my own view tends towards them being very literally existent as well as symbolically and subjectively existent, but they are a very useful concept to use when performing scanning either way. In order to achieve a psychic perception according to this theory, there must be some form of impact upon these bodies; hence, making these bodies more sensitive to such impacts is very much in a scanners interest. The two exercises which I have practiced to directly increase such sensitivity are:
having someone scan you at ones chakral points, scanning at a certain point and just basically waiting there with ones awareness, while you try to feel what chakra point is being scanned. This will directly sensitize these points and allow one to receive other perceptions from them with a far increased clarity.
Using them as adjuncts in scanning; this has to come with a warning, it is very easy to accidentally overload yourself while doing this but basically one scans a target, any sort of target, and when one has obtained some form of contact one then sort of 'asks' part of ones subtle bodies what it can receive about the target, for example one might ask ones astral hands what they are receiving and get a gooey, tingling feeling, then ask ones third eye and get an intuition of a spherical shape and then ask ones etheric eyes and get an impression of a bunch of bright lines shooting upwards. Then you get feedback and learn it was a soft-textured power gathering constructs made out of two spheres circling around each other gathering ambient energy and storing them in the ceiling or something similar.
This is just a very basic idea of how to increase your sensitivity, with some creativity you will come up with many others of equal or greater use.
4: Common issues when beginning scanning:
a.Scaling; this is something talked about in an article at the psion guild, basically it means one will often lose ones point of reference while scanning. The most common form of this is scanning something and smacking your awareness right into the target, an amusing example would be scanning someone’s sword construct and smacking right against the point; you get a sudden headache and an impression of a dot as your perceptions. The best way to avoid this at least at first is to avoid jumping to conclusions and be sure to try to scan the target from multiple angles, zooming in and out and thus getting a good grip on it.
b."I can't see anything!"; this issue has multiple components, one being a visual bias with the expectation that information has to come in sight when it could just as easily come in the form of a gut feeling, a texture or just a sudden idea, another being a lack of sensitivity which can be dealt with by practicing more and another being pre-judging of perceptions-basically your deeper mind did present you with a perception, but it was very subtle, perhaps a slight flash of red with a slick texture and you just shrugged it off and decided it was nothing or passed it off as part of your thoughts. Your mind then decides you are not going to take what it gives seriously and in simple terms decides to just not bother anymore.
c.Too much AOL; The best ways of correcting this are; mental fluidity, describing rather than identifying and breaking ones perceptions apart, eventually one gets a feel for what is valid data and what is AOL and until then one just has to keep on practicing until this develops.
d.Too much information; Often when scanning, once your mind has decided you are going to act on what it gives, you will get all the information in a sudden flash-flood. Just work with it, pick through it for whatever you can get and clear your mind and basically ask yourself for the pieces of it.
5.Types of scanning;
Here are a few types of scanning you can try out to expand your perceptions and build your perceptual instrument:
Field scanning; basically one scans someone’s energetic field, this is very simple to do and is much like shield scanning, and in fact it can sometimes be very easy to confuse someone’s field with a shield depending on how toughened their initial field layer is, which often does become toughened to such a degree it functions as a natural shield, and how well-programmed the shield is. One small game to play with this is to have one persons try to alter their field and then have the other scan it, compare results and see how well they match.
Telepathic scanning; Basically like any other form of scan except you will look into their minds, just look for the general 'frequency' of their telepathy and you will come across it. Don't be impatient if it's fragmented or hard to navigate at first, and also don't necessarily jump on it if it comes extremely clear at first. Just let the perceptions flow, and move your awareness around to try to find what you need.
Systems scanning; Scanning peoples subtle bodies. There are many models for how to do this, the four-plane model of etheric, astral, mental and spiritual being a very common one. If you become known for scanning you will get scanning requests which amount to a systems scanning request alot of the time, for just practice you can have one person do anything which involves working with their own systems, self-modifications to qi gong, and then scan it and then compare results.
Tech scanning; 'Tech' is a form of energy working much more efficient than constructs, in order to scan tech be prepared for alot of symbolism when trying to interpret the data and concentrate alot on how the information is flowing through the piece of tech. http://www.omnimancy.com has some information on tech, despite their very regrettable decision to keep their own tech 'closed source' as it were.

This is a very helpful and awesome article from A State of Mind. It is not mine, all credits go to the original creator.

- - http://kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/body_basics/body_basics.html

The Art of Scanning

This is an article on scanning which I hope you will enjoy and perhaps find some use of. It will have the following parts;
2. A few simple scanning exercises;
I will be giving these in a bit of a list format, some basic energy manipulation will be assumed;
3.Introduction to sensitivity;
The previously suggested exercises will have already trained ones sensitivity to a fairly high degree if they have been practiced in a dedicated manner, but sensitivity itself has to be considered separately. It is very necessary to scanning that one be sensitive to a target, in fact it is half of the whole point of scanning. One way to train sensitivity is to just listen around one and attempt to predict what sound will come next, and with enough practice this 'listening' will swiftly become a constant sense in itself which has many benefits, but there are a few others. For example;
5.Types of scanning;
